How to transform your working from home set up
Whether you were working from home pre-Covid, or whether Covid has forced you to turn an area of your home into an office, you need to make sure you have an optimum set-up to make working from home productive and at the same time relaxing for you. Here are some great ideas of what you need to have the best space possible
💺 Ergonomic chair and desk 💺
Investing in the right furniture for your workspace is very important. It is an area where you spend a lot of time, and you can do a lot of damage to your body by having a terrible posture. Do some research, consider any existing problems you can also alleviate by having a better chair – this is not a place to skimp!
🌐 Additional ethernet cable or wi-fi extender 🌐
There is not much more frustrating than losing reception at a vital point in a meeting or piece of work. The best way to prevent this is by putting a cable in place at your desk to ensure there will never be network issues – but if you don’t have anywhere to hide the cable (you may have animal or children issues!) a wi-fi extender can really help improve your connectivity.
💡 Lighting 💡
Have a proper look at the space you work in. Does it look like a nice inviting space where you want to work? Can you see well at your computer and any notes at all times in the day? There are some fantastic options for lighting options to prevent eye strain and also make the workspace very comfortable for you.
💻 An additional screen 💻
If you have worked with two screens, this will be a no brainer, and if you haven’t – you are missing out! An additional screen makes life so much easier when you have multiple things to work on. Even if you prefer just one screen, having a larger screen than your laptop will help you feel like you are in a more permanent workspace (interestingly, my husband doesn’t get on with two screens, he puts it down to having been an on the road IT consultant for years, so got used to using one screen and the hot-keys to whizz around the windows he had open, old dogs and new tricks come to mind)
☕ Coffee machine (or whatever is your hot drink of choice!) ☕
Put a little set up in your workspace so it is easy for you to get yourself your favourite drink (not including alcohol in this case!). This will help keep you focus for the time you are working. When you have to leave the space to make drinks or snacks it is very☕ easy to get distracted by other going’s on at home – so the more it can be prevented the better!
If all else fails - Have / teams a zoom background to hide everything 😊
